ABOUT

Yoko Georgiou is a multi-disciplinary artist from Niigata Japan, based on the Surf Coast in Victoria Australia. Working across various mediums, from textile design to tufting, paper craft to painting, Yoko delves into the realm of comprehensibility through physical form.

“When I’m talking to someone or looking at something, I’m always tracing contours in my mind – faces, hair, eyes, insects, flower petals, leaves, water, skin texture. Translating those lines is the source of my output. I work in the area of tangibility to create pieces that also have the potential for practical use. Tangibility is valuable, there is a nurturing aspect to it that is real. Tufting is a fitting partner to my textile design work and creating original ideas for everyday use is my focus.”

RUGS
Hand-tufted by Yoko Georgiou in Torquay, Victoria, Australia. Made from 100% cotton and 100% New Zealand wool - some rugs used aclylic yarn for small parts. All rugs are a one-off, and are intended to be interacted with as functional artworks. A delight for the eyes and equally pleasing to touch, these pieces can be either displayed on a wall or used on the floor.

TEXTILES
Yoko textile designs are all originally born out of ideas and then realised by hand in a tactile environment – painted, cut and pasted, arranged. Before being laid out as a yardage and screen printed on natural fibre fabric in Melbourne. All products – hats, bags etc. – are finally sewn by Yoko here in Torquay. No shortcuts, every item is a wearable piece of art.
